| Q.
What
is the correct way to mix Kalkwasser? Thanks for your time,
Ken. |
| A.
Purchase
a 5 gallon bucket, mix 1 teaspoon of kalkwasser to 1 gallon
of ro/di water. Mix the solution for 2 hours with a powerhead.
Siphon off the clear liquid of kalkwasser and drip very
slowly to prevent a pH spike. |

| Q.
I
just purchased a 125 gallon tank which included a wet/dry filter.
I want to setup a reef tank. Will this be fine? Thank you, Mike. |
| A.
No,
The bacteria will form on the live rock and denitrification
takes place inside the rock. A wet/dry will produce nitrate
over time which can harm your reef at high levels. |
| Q.
What
is the Jaubert type system? |
|
A.
It consists of having
a plenum on the bottom of your tank where denitrification
takes place, then place 2" of crushed coral and 1"
of live sand on top.
